Initially providing strategic advice on the set-up and running of a geomatics and mapping capability. IDLdn set the delivery approach for the mapping and Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) for the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.
The mapping publications required for this event numbered around 2000 and IDLdn built a technical capability in house to support the production of these maps along with the ongoing management of spatial data to facilitate a successful games.
The key parts of the GIS strategy were to reduce the associated costs and manpower required and keep a single source of truth for spatial data relating to the Games. To do this IDLdn implemented a small team of specialists using cloud based GIS tools and standardise approaches to cartography to reduce rework and streamline activities. This meant that TO2015 were able to offer the same level of service as a 20+ team with only 3 core staff.
